ABA Section of International Law Fall Meeting in Miami-October 27-31 Eden Roc

The ABA Section of International Law is hosting its Fall Meeting in Miami, Florida on October 27-31 at Eden Roc, A Renaissance Beach Resort & Spa. Click here for the Program Agenda PDF . The folllowing is an excerpt from the ABA International Website:
“The Fall Meeting promises to be exceptional, with a projected attendance of approximately 1000 international law practitioners, academics, and NGO and government officials. We’re offering a slate of 59 programs – five concurrent sessions in each time slot — featuring top-notch speakers from across the globe. The sessions will be clustered in the following eight areas (“tracks”):

Business / Transactional
Corporate Counsel
Dispute Resolution / Litigation
International Trade / Regulatory
Latin America / Caribbean
Law Practice
Public International Law / Rule of Law
Young Lawyers

A number of these programs will focus on the global economy and its effects on lawyers and our clients. The sessions promise to be exceptionally timely and relevant to your practice.

In addition, on Wednesday, October 28th, we will be offering a full day of programs on recent developments and future prospects regarding Cuba. Momentum for change with respect to Cuba is gathering pace, and the Section’s Meeting in Miami promises to be this year’s premiere event for the discussion of Cuba-related issues.

We’ll be kicking off the Meeting with a keynote address by the renowned Dr. Hernando de Soto, president of Peru’s Institute for Liberty and Democracy, on the topic of the world economic crisis. Time magazine has chosen de Soto as one of the five leading Latin American innovators of the century and among the 100 most influential people in the world. He has also been listed by Forbes magazine as one of the 15 innovators “who will reinvent your future”, and in 2005, readers of Foreign Policy magazine in the U.S. and Prospect magazine of the UK ranked him among the top 13 “public intellectuals” in the world. De Soto is also a dynamic and engaging speaker, and no one will leave the conference without fresh insights into the current situation.

If getting a year’s worth of cutting edge CLE credit weren’t enough, our seasonal meetings provide an excellent venue for networking. Practicing law is not just a function of what you know, but also who you know, so in addition to ample networking breaks during the day, we will be hosting receptions at some of the area’s finest and most beautiful locations, including the opulent Versace Mansion – known as the “Casa Casauarina” – right in the heart of South Beach, and the world-famous “Bath Club”. We’ll also be offering the ultimate networking opportunity, golf with your peers at a Section tournament on Saturday, October 31st.

And then there’s the site of the Meeting itself – The Eden Roc Renaissance Hotel & Spa. Recently listed by the New York Times as one of “The 53 Places to Go”, the Eden Roc – known as the “Grand Dame of Miami Beach” – looks splendid following last year’s lavish $180 million renovation.

We realize that CLE and travel budgets are tight in this climate, and in a nod to the economic situation, we are maintaining our registration rates at the same level as 2006, when ABA International last held a seasonal meeting in Miami. You will not find this caliber of world-class programming and networking opportunities at these rates anywhere else.

Stay tuned for more updates! We’re looking forward to seeing you in Miami Beach, Florida.

Best regards,

Glenn Hendrix
